President
Robert V. Bolen, CFA, CFP®, President of Bolen | Dodson & Associates, has 20 years of experience in the investment industry as a securities analyst, portfolio manager and financial planner.
Mr. Bolen began his investment career in New York City in corporate finance with The Prudential Insurance Company in 1986. He returned to his Nashville roots in early 1988, joining Equitable Securities as a securities analyst. In that role Mr. Bolen performed industry and company specific due diligence; interviewed management, competitors, vendors and suppliers; created and maintained sophisticated earnings models; developed investment themes on industries and companies; regularly wrote industry and company specific research reports; and communicated his investment opinions to, and interacted with, institutional and retail sales forces and with institutional investors.
He continued to develop his research skills as a securities analyst at Nashville based J. C. Bradford & Co. from 1989 to 2000 and was named Partner in 1995. After J.C. Bradford sold to Paine Webber, Mr. Bolen joined a privately held company as Chief Financial Officer. However, during the fall of 2001, his love of the markets and a keen desire to help individuals attain their financial goals began to call him back. He joined Merrill Lynch & Co. in early 2002 where he remained until founding Bolen Asset Management. Bolen Asset Management merged with Lori Dodson and Associates in the fall of 2006.
Mr. Bolen graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Kentucky University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Indiana University in 1986 with an MBA in Finance and Management. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1988 and his Certified Financial Planner designation in 2002.
Mr. Bolen is a board member and past president of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Financial Planning Association and is a member of the Nashville Analyst Society and the CFA Institute.
Mr. Bolen is actively engaged in community affairs. He has served as board member and treasurer community outreach based Franklin Tomorrow, is Treasurer 21 Drug Court, an alternative solution for chronic drug offenders, is an advisor to and member of the Christian Executive Officer (CEO) Fellowship and is a member of Grace Chapel Church in Leiper's Fork, TN
Mr. Bolen resides in Franklin, TN with his wife Pam and their two children, Marissa and Zachary.
